September is Hunger Action Month

Yesterday marked the beginning of Hunger Action Month when Feeding America and member food banks ask everyone in America to take action to fight hunger in their community, all month long. SeaShare is sending a truckload of assorted pollock and cod portions to Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver, CO to kick off the month. Thanks to a generous donation and discounted processing from Trident Seafoods in Seattle, WA this translates to 144,144 servings of highly nutritious seafood for food bank recipients in the Denver area.

EAST versus WEST

The National Fisheries Institute Future Leaders Class of 2015 has kicked off a friendly competition to raise funds and pounds of seafood to assist SeaShare in getting more seafood to food banks across the country. The East versus West competition is in motion and will continue until the annual class meeting in January. The mighty Mississippi River is the delineating line for East versus West. Preferred Freezer Services employees are currently leading the campaign with East donations of over $800 in just a couple of days.

E&E Foods Receives Top Donor Award

SeaShare board member John Garner presented E&E Foods with our Top Donor award yesterday at a luncheon at E&E Foods in Seattle. Randy Patrick and Tab Goto were on hand to receive the award. E&E Foods has been a strategic partner with SeaShare for several years. They provide discounted processing and packaging services, and they donate financially. Last year alone E&E Foods processed over 450,000 lbs of salmon and halibut for Seashare, taking headed and gutted fish and cutting them into beautiful steak portions. The steaks were then water glazed and packed in sleeves and cases for transport to food banks across the nation and in Alaska.

Hunger in America

For many, it is easy to take food for granted. It is easily accessible, and you have a choice of fresh and healthy ingredients. For at least 49 million Americans, this is not their reality. For reasons such as underemployment, unemployment, low wages, or illness many Americans rely on food banks and feeding centers to access food. SeaShare actively works with the Feeding America network to provide the healthiest of foods, seafood, to affiliated food banks.
