Building SeaShare, Fish by Fish

As non-profits across the nation face challenges and changes in their funding streams, many of our supporters have asked us how the changing dynamics affect SeaShare. It’s not a simple answer. While we didn’t have federal funding to lose, increased pressure on other grants we’ve regularly received has led to smaller awards or no funding. This troubles us, but we’re also seeing more interest in SeaShare's mission. Seafood donations are up, and our amazing partners have showed up to help us put the FUN in fundraising!
On May 29th Copper River Seafoods hosted their annual First Fish event for the Anchorage community and named SeaShare as the charity recipient of 10% of ticket sales. ASMI, Delta Western, Aleutian Airlines and Wells Fargo sponsored the event and Holland America, Lyden, Alyeska Resort, Copper River Seafood Development Association and AK Air Cargo donated items for a live auction! June 7th, Holland America hosted a fundraiser for SeaShare onboard the Eurodam while it docked at Pier 91 in Seattle. Guests enjoyed a tour and a three-course lunch in a private dining room. These two events brought in enough to help SeaShare purchase almost 100,000 servings of healthy seafood for those in need!

Our next fundraising event is Aug. 5 at Reuben’s Brews in Seattle where $1 from every pint sold will go to SeaShare as part of their reoccurring Gratituesdays series. If you’re in the area, please join us to raise a glass to the fight against hunger!
As our friends at Food Lifeline note in this blog post, healthy seafood donations don’t last long in food banks. We’re thrilled that we’ve donated more than 1 million pounds of seafood this year, but the need remains. Every pound, every dollar, and every partner makes a huge difference to us and to those in need. Enjoy the summer and thank you all for your support!
