Fall 2008

Hunger in America is a top priority for our nation as food resources shrink and demand for affordable food increases.  Almost 700,000 children went hungry in America sometime in 2007.  Overall, 36.2 million adults and children struggled with hunger in America during 2007.  If you find this figure alarming, remember that we now have an economic downturn to add to these figures.  Read about what we are doing to provide high quality seafood to America's hungry and find out how you can help.
50 Programs Enjoyed Pad Thai Sauce Donation
SeaShare recently acquired a donation of Pad Thai Sauce from Orca Bay Foods.  Food Lifeline - Seattle accepted the product and wrote the following note:

Hi Jim & Mary:

Just want to give you feedback for a recent donation (August) of Pad Thai sauce from Orca Bay.  It was greatly appreciated by the agencies we serve!  In fact, all of it was distributed quickly to more than 50 of our feeding programs.  Several, such as Auburn Food Bank, C.A.M.P. Food Bank, St. Mary's, Bremerton Food Bank, and Federal Way Food Bank placed several orders for this product.  We sure could distribute more if we had it!

The Prohibited Species Donation program is SeaShare's signature program.  It is unique in fisheries management and in the seafood industry for its innovative approach to resource protection and utilization.  It allows fishermen and seafood companies to voluntarily reduce discard waste in a way that provides tremendous public benefit to Americans in need throughout the United States.

Rubicon Resources Donates 44,000 lbs Frozen Shrimp and Bread Crumbs

Rubicon Resources is one of the leading importers and distributors of sustainable seafood in North America. They recently donated over 44,000 lbs. of frozen shrimp and bread crumbs to SeaShare.  These products were distributed to food banks in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Hillside, NJ.  Brandon Christopher, of Rubicon Resources, offers the following encouragement to other seafood importers and distributors regarding the call to donate:

"We heard about the kind and compassionate intentions of SeaShare through our warehouse distributor, who explained to us that the food products we donated would go toward a worthy cause like feeding the poor. Although we provided the seafood, it is SeaShare who deserves the recognition for their noble deeds. We encourage all food importers and distributors to help the cause of SeaShare by donating as much food as they can, to help feed the poor and hungry of our planet - And so shines a good deed in a weary world."
