A Holiday message from Jim Harmon, Executive Director of SeaShare

Season's Greetings!
I hope this letter finds you well, and enjoying the season. This is a time to be thankful, and a time to share our bounty with others.

This holiday season we are asking that you join us in our efforts to feed people. Together we will continue to make a difference in the lives of hungry Americans - the portion of our population that can benefit the most from a nutritious meal. You won't find a better return on your investment. Every dollar enables us to access 8 more seafood meals. A donation of just $125 will result in 1000 additional meals.

Food banks continue to struggle to keep their shelves filled. Demand is up over 30% since the fall of 2007. The response has been positive, but food bank offerings typically include low-value, high-calorie items. Protein is a rare commodity. And high-quality, nutritious, protein is the hardest to find. That's where our seafood industry comes to the rescue. Our partnerships provide the best possible food source for people in need. We don't just feed people. We use seafood to feed people well.

This year we are particularly thankful for the support of these important organizations:
National Fisheries Institute
At-Sea Processors Association
Global Aquaculture Association
Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association
Pacific Seafood Processors Association
United Catcher Boats

These groups represent a broad spectrum of our seafood industry, and signify the unifying force that SeaShare has become. We share a common goal. Through SeaShare, our seafood partners are improving diets, fighting obesity, building markets, and supporting sustainable fisheries. The total is greater than the sum of the parts.

Please make a financial donation today. Together, we can make an important contribution, and send a powerful message that our industry works to support families in our local communities. With your support we can provide high-protein seafood to hungry people locally, regionally, and nationally.

Happy holidays!
Jim

From Sig Hansen, Captain F/V Northwestern

Friends,

I just returned from the Bering Sea in time for Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for another successful season - we caught some crab, and everyone who went out, came back.

We'll spend the holiday with family and friends, enjoying the life that we've earned by working at sea. But there are a lot of people who aren't as lucky as we are. For them, every day is a struggle. I hear in the news that hunger in America is affecting more people than ever. I make a living fishing for food, and I want to do my part to help feed more people. So my crew and I support SeaShare in their efforts to supply seafood to food banks across the country. I hope you will join us by making a donation to SeaShare this holiday season. It's one of the most efficient hunger-relief programs out there. Together, we can help more people eat nutritious seafood.

Sig
