Millions of Seafood Meals to America's Food Banks

Here's a quick look at SeaShare results for 2010:

-Almost 6 million seafood meals were donated to America's food banks.

-15 states received seafood from SeaShare, with 36 % in WA, 20% in CA, 12% in PA, 9% in AK, and 9% in NY, and 14% various. Washington state was the largest recipient of donated seafood, distributed through Food Lifeline to over 172 smaller food banks.

-Trident Seafoods and Ocean Beauty Seafoods both achieved the 10 million meal donation benchmark.

-Mazzetta Company donated 238,000 lbs. of seafood in 2010. That's a million meals.

-More than 60 seafood companies, warehouse facilities, freight companies, processors and individual fishing boats worked with SeaShare to generate our 2010 donations.

-Donations of canned salmon increased in 2010 thanks to help from Salmon Terminals, LSI and KWL in Seattle, WA.

-SeaShare worked with the following fishing fleets to obtain high quality seafood: Bering Sea Pollock Fleet, Alaska Whitefish Trawlers Association, United Catcher Boats and Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association.
